Ret. Judge, Provincial Court of Alberta (sitting in Calgary Family & Youth Court) Mediator & Judicial Innovator

Nancy Flatters practiced for many years in the areas of Civil Litigation, Family/Divorce/Child Protection, and Youth Criminal Law. In 1984, she added Mediation to her other practice areas; and in 19985, with her extensive experience and training in mediation, arbitration and negotiation, she further added Mediation, Arbitration, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Teaching /Training for various private/public entities and individuals. She has also taught in the Faculty of Law, University of Calgary. From 1988 – 2008, she team-taught a required second year 40-hour block week course in Legal Interviewing/Counselling/Negotiation Techniques and the first year of the transition of that course to Dispute Resolution. As an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law and while Practitioner-in-Residence for the Faculty academic term 1991-92, she designed and taught the first course in ADR to be given in the Faculty.
